WASHINGTON, D.C. – Host Howard hit .375 for the match in taking a 3-0 MEAC volleyball victory over Norfolk State on Friday night by scores of 25-14, 25-9 and 25-14.
Paola Matos had a team-high seven kills to pace the Spartans (4-10, 0-3 MEAC), who dropped their fourth in a row. Bria Woodard led the Bison (5-10, 2-1) with 12 kills.
Woodard had six kills in the opening set for the Bison. NSU led 3-2 early on before the Bison scored four straight points and never trailed again in the set.
The Bison hit a blistering .591 with 13 kills and no errors in taking the second set from NSU. Howard scored the first nine points of the set.
Howard used a 9-0 spurt midway through the third set to pull away. A block by
Shonte Seale and
Kendra McRuffin followed by a Bison attack error brought NSU within 9-7, but the Bison scored the next nine points, eight off the serve of Cimone Woodard, to take control of the final set.
Paola Maradei,
Gracie Teeter and
Taylor Eichelberger chipped in three kills apiece for the Spartans.
Nicole Rodriguez led the way with 10 digs, with Seale and
Myleah Carter contributing six each.
Caris Cross dished out 15 assists.
The Spartans remain on the road for a 3 p.m. match Sunday at Delaware State.
