NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion had Norfolk State's number on Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, as the Monarchs handed the NSU women's tennis team a 7-0 loss.
The Monarchs won all six singles matches in straight sets, including three wins without losing a game. They also won both doubles matches that were completed to drop the Spartans to 2-5 on the year.
ODU (7-4) won both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, with Holly Hutchinson and Tatsiana Sasnouskaya defeated senior
Paula Fortuno and freshman
Laura Ruiz 6-1 at the second position. The NSU freshmen duo of
Andrea Barcenas and
Lydia Oviedo fell 6-0 at the No. 3 position to Brooke Pilkington and Alexandra Viktorovic, 6-0.
Seniors
Zoe Fraser and
Bruna Goncalves were down 3-1 to the No. 8 ranked duo of Yulia Starodubtseva and Alesya Yakubovich before the match went unfinished.
In singles, Fortuno fell to No. 40 Hutchinson at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-0. Both Barcenas at the No. 2 spot to Starodubtseva, and freshman
Zada McMorris at the No. 6 position to Shahar Biran lost by 6-0, 6-0 scores as well.
Ruiz won a few games in her 6-3, 6-0 loss to Sasnouskaya at No. 2 singles, as did Goncalves at the fifth position to Viktorovich, 6-0, 6-3. Fraser succumbed to Pilkington at the fourth position as well, 6-1, 6-0.
The Spartans will host North Carolina Wesleyan at noon on Friday for Senior Day at the NSU Tennis Complex.
