| By:
NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's basketball duo of Devante Carter and Joe Bryant Jr. were honored on Friday when both were named to the All-MEAC team for the 2020-21 season.

Carter was voted to the all-conference second team, and Bryant was named to the third team. The duo led the Spartans to a share of the MEAC Northern Division title this year at 8-4, part of a 14-7 overall regular season campaign.

A preseason third-team honoree, Carter ranks as one of the best players in the league. The senior sits fourth in the MEAC in scoring (15.9), seventh in assist-turnover ratio (1.5), eighth in assists (3.8) and 15th in rebounding (5.0). He was a three-time MEAC Player of the Week this year.

The Newport News, Virginia native is shooting 43 percent from the field and nearly 69 percent from the free throw line. Carter has scored in double figures in all but one game this year, including a career-high 31 points in a win over Coppin State on Feb. 7.

Bryant was voted to the preseason all-conference second team and followed that up by averaging 10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists this year. The Norfolk native stands 16th in the league in scoring and 20th in rebounds while leading the league in free throw shooting at 86.0 percent.

The junior was named the MEAC Player of the Week on Feb. 2. In conference play, Bryant stood 11th in the league in scoring (12.3) as well as fifth in 3-pointers (1.9) and 12th in assists (2.3). He tallied a season-high 24 points in a win over Delaware State on Jan. 30.

Anthony Tarke of Coppin State was named both the MEAC Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year. His younger brother, Nendah Tarke, was voted the Rookie of the Year. Robert McCullum of Florida A&M took home the MEAC Coach of the Year award.

NSU will learn its seeding in next week's MEAC Tournament on Saturday after the conclusion of the regular season across the league.
