Grant, Parker-Love Lead Big Weekend for NSU Sprinters at USC

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Kiara Grant and DaJah Parker-Love both notched a pair of top-five finishes in their sprints and also formed half of NSU's winning 4x100 relay team to lead the way for the Spartan women at the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday at the University of South Carolina.

Grant and Parker-Love both ran well in the 100 and 200-meter events. Grant took second in the 100 meters in 11.29 seconds and won the 200 in 23.25, matching her second-best time ever at that distance. Parker-Love PRed in both events, clocking an 11.40 in a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters and posting a 23.55 in her third-place finish in the 200 meters.

"Kiara and DaJah really feed off each other well," said NSU Director of Track & Field Kenneth Giles. "DaJah is developing into the sprinter we knew she would be when we recruited her."

Grant, Parker-Love, Dahja Price and Malika Pride teamed to win the 4x100 relay in 45.20 seconds, one of the top 25 times in the NCAA East Region so far this year.

Pride also showed well in her individual race, clocking a 54.78 in the 400 meters while placing seventh.

NSU's other win Saturday came via Martha Bissah in the 1,500, her second straight weekend winning that race. She posted a time of 4:25.89, tops in the conference so far.

Fridah Koech led NSU's long distance runners with a runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters. Her time of 18:23.95 is the third-fastest in the conference this year.

Faith Jemutai placed fifth behind Koech in the 5,000 meters in 18:41.07.

Daiysa Burrell had the high finish for NSU in the field on Saturday. The senior registered a personal-best throw of 145 feet, 8 inches to finish ninth in the hammer.

The Spartans return to action next Friday and Saturday at the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville.
