Box Score RADFORD, Va. – Radford's Jessie Marvin limited Norfolk State softball to just one hit as the Spartans fell to the Highlanders by a 7-1 score on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Radford Softball Stadium.
Â
In a game delayed several hours due to weather, NSU was unable to get anything going on offense, scoring its only run on a bases-loaded walk. Radford finished with nine hits, scoring six of its seven runs between the fifth and sixth innings.
Â
Due to the later start following the weather delay, the teams did not play the second game of the doubleheader.
Â
The Spartans (19-15) got their lone run in the fifth after they loaded the bases with one out, including their only hit of the game, a single by junior
Lily Potter. Freshman
Yrral Davis drew a walk to make it 1-1, but the Highlanders got out of the inning when Potter was thrown out at home on a fly out to center.
Â
Radford (17-29) broke it open with four runs in the bottom half of the fifth, three on Madison Canady's bases-clearing double. The Highlanders added two more runs in the sixth on Riley Oakes' two-run single.
Â
Marvin (9-14) allowed just the one earned run with four walks and five strikeouts in all seven innings. NSU sophomore
Alexis Robinson (5-6) was tagged with the loss after giving up seven hits and six runs, four earned, in five innings.
Â
The two teams finish out the series on Wednesday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. Those will mark the last games for the Spartans before next week's MEAC Tournament.
