GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fridah Koech won her first career MEAC individual gold medal Thursday, winning the women's 10,000 meters in a personal record time as the Norfolk State women opened the 2021 MEAC Outdoor Championships on Thursday night.
Koech crossed the line in 38 minutes, 19.77 seconds to top her previous PR by nearly 30 seconds. Teammate
Faith Jemutai was second in 39:16.71, giving NSU 18 points for a very early lead in the team standings.
The only other competition Thursday was the semifinal heats of the 200 meters. Spartan standouts
Kiara Grant (23.89) and
Malika Pride (season-best 24.02) both advanced to Saturday's event final.
Women's competition resumes on Friday with the hammer throw at 10 a.m.
