NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's 4x100 relay quartet of
Kai Cole,
Keith Brown,
Bryan-Madison Ahouman and
Trequan Barnes earned honorable mention All-America honors as announced Monday by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The Spartans' 400 relay team earned the accolade by virtue of competing at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships last week in Oregon. The Spartans finished 21st at the meet with a time of 40.18 seconds. The top eight finishing teams earned first-team All-America honors, ninth through 16th picked up second-team accolades and 17th through 24th were honorable mention.
This year's 4x100 relay team became just the second in school history, and first since 1998, to advance to the Division I outdoor nationals. The All-America honor is the second in the career of Barnes, who was a second-team indoor All-American in the 400 meters in 2019. NSU's last outdoor All-Americans on the men's side were James Taylor (200m) and Keith Nkrumah (110m hurdles), who were second-team finishers in 2013.
Those four, along with
Savien Hayes and
Anthony Franklin who ran on the relay earlier in the season, are all expected to return to NSU for 2021-22.
