NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State volleyball team picked up two weekly honors Monday as newcomers
Shonte Seale and
Caris Cross were selected as award-winners by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Seale, an outside hitter, was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week, while Cross, a freshman setter, was tabbed Rookie of the Week.
Seale made a splash in her NSU debut, blasting 24 kills, tied for third-most in school history, in the five-set loss to Hampton last Tuesday. She added 14 digs for her first of two double-doubles on the week. Seale recorded 11 kills and 20 digs in last Friday's match at UNCG and posted 10 more kills Saturday against North Carolina A&T, earning all-tournament honors at the Spartan/Aggie Tournament.
Cross also had a stellar week in her first matches as a Spartan. Cross averaged 8.27 assists per set, racking up 124 total across four matches. Cross posted 42 assists in the opener with Hampton and 30 in two matches in Greensboro – 33 against UNCG and 31 in the Spartans' win over American, NSU's first in school history against the Eagles. Cross also tallied 25 digs and nine block assists in the four matches last week.
NSU is back home Tuesday night to face Regent University at 6 p.m. at Echols Hall.
