COLUMBIA, S.C. – Victories by
Kai Cole and
Trequan Barnes and a trio of top-five finishes for
Camren Wynder-Hill were among the highlights for the Norfolk State men's track and field team on Saturday at the Gamecock Opener, the first meet of the calendar year for the Spartans.
Cole just missed his PR in the 60 meters but still won comfortably with a time of 6.74 seconds. He also registered a new indoor PR of 21.04 seconds in a runner-up finish in the 200 meters. Barnes, meanwhile, opened his final indoor season with a winning time of 47.45 seconds in the 400 meters.
Wynder-Hill competed in the 60 hurdles and both the long and triple jump events and set new personal bests in all three. Wynder-Hill jumped 23 feet, 4 inches to place third in the long jump, 46-1.25 in a third-place finish in the triple jump, and he clocked a time of 8.37 seconds to finish fifth in the 60 hurdles.
Other high finishes on the track include
Anthony Franklin's runner-up finish in the 60 (6.86),
Dazon Harrison placing fourth in the 400m (48.83) and the 4x400 team of Cole, Harrison,
Savien Hayes and
Jeremiah Zellander coming in second in the 4x400 relay.
Elsewhere in field events,
Joshua Sutton cleared a PR of 6-8 to take second in the high jump. Freshman
Joshua Peterson notched fifth-place finishes in both the long jump (23-1.25) and triple jump (44-0.75).
The Spartans are next in action Friday and Saturday at the Penn State National.
