UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Kai Cole continued his stellar indoor season with a huge PR in winning the 60-meter dash on Friday at the Penn State National Open.
Cole, the reigning MEAC Track Athlete of the Week, won the 60 for the second straight week. This time, he broke 6.70 for the first time in his career, clocking a 6.69 in the finals. The time is tied for the fastest in the MEAC and 30
th nationally after the weekend.
Cole followed that up with a runner-up finish in the 200 on Saturday (21.38), leading a strong weekend for the NSU sprinters.
Anthony Franklin posted a season-best 6.75 to finish third in the 60 meters and
Trequan Barnes was third in the 200 in 21.62.
Dazon Harrison led the way in the 400 with a sixth-place showing (48.71).
Barnes, Harrison,
Savien Hayes and
Jeremiah Zellander teamed up to take fourth in the 4x400 relay in 3:17.55.
Not to be outdone, the Spartan jumpers also had an excellent showing.
Camren Wynder-Hill and
Joshua Peterson went 1-2 in the long jump and both notched season-bests. Wynder-Hill's PR of 23 feet, 7.5 inches won the event, and Peterson was just behind with a season-best 23-7.25.
Isaac Haywood was fourth with a top effort of 23-2.5, which is a new PR for the sophomore.
Haywood was also strong in the triple jump, placing second with a best jump of 48-5.25. Peterson came in fifth in the triple jump as well with a mark of 46-9.
Joshua Sutton earned a seventh-place finish in the high jump, clearing 6-6.75.
The Spartans are back in action next weekend at the University of South Carolina Invitational.
