NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State men's basketball picked up a pair of weekly conference accolades on Tuesday afternoon.
Kris Bankston earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, while
George Beale Jr. took MEAC Rookie of the Week honors.
Bankston, an All-MEAC Defensive Team selection last season, started the 2022-23 campaign with more dominance inside the paint. The graduate forward averaged 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game across four contests for the Spartans, including a 13-rebound, five-block performance against Cairn.
Beale, a Suffolk, Va. native, made a spectacular collegiate debut against Virginia University of Lynchburg last week, scoring 18 points and pulling in a team-high 14 rebounds. The freshman guard has started all four of Norfolk State's games so far, averaging 6.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest.
