NORFOLK, Va. – Two Norfolk State women's basketball players earned weekly conference accolades for their dominant starts to the 2022-23 season, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Kierra Wheeler earned MEAC Co-Player of the Week, while
Camille Downs took MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Wheeler dominated inside the paint across Norfolk State's three games, recording two doubles. The sophomore forward averaged 11.3 points and 12 rebounds per game in the Spartans' three-contests with a pair of double-doubles, posting 14 points and 15 rebounds against College of Charleston. Â She shot 59.3 percent from the floor for the week.

Downs, the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, upheld her reputation with 16 rebounds and 12 steals across the week, averaging 5.3 boards and 4.0 steals per contest. The graduate guard swiped six steals at Penn State, after tallying four in the season-opening win over VUL. Â
