NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State women's volleyball team hasn't met Howard yet this season, but the squads will become quite familiar soon. The Spartans and Bison will play twice this week, once in Norfolk and once in Washington D.C.

NSU (7-15, 7-5) will host the defending MEAC champion Bison (17-9, 10-2) first in an afternoon matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 9. First serve will take place at 12 p.m. in Gill Gymnasium, before the Spartans head to Burr Gymnasium at 6 p.m. on Friday for the final match of the regular season.

The Spartans were originally set to host the Bison on Sept. 30, but the match was postponed due to inclement weather conditions.

Norfolk State fell in five sets to North Carolina Central on Sunday, despite multiple Spartans putting up big numbers.
Shonte Seale posted 17 kills, while
Carla Hernandez racked up a 13-kill, 11-dig double-double.

NSU received several strong freshman contributions against the Eagles, with outside hitter
Raquel Lightbourn tallying eight kills on a .304 hitting percentage. First-year setter
Sydney McCree returned from injury, recording 41 assists and 11 digs in her hometown of Durham.

Scouting the Bison

The Bison are led by a star freshman, Rya McKinnon. The outside hitter leads the MEAC with 2.89 kills per set, staying efficient at a .299 hitting percentage.

Kayla Diaz also leads the MEAC with 10.39 assists per set, reaching the 50-assist mark in two matches this season.
