Match Recap: Women's Tennis | | Alex Lehmbeck, Asst. SID

NSU Falls to Virginia Tech, 7-0

Norfolk, Va. – The Norfolk State women's tennis team lost to Virginia Tech, 7-0, on Saturday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center, falling to 0-2 on the season.
 
For the second straight match, Amber Fuller was the only Spartan to win a set. Fuller lost the first set, 6-2, of her No. 2 singles match with Dariya Radulova, but bounced back to take the second set 6-1. Radulova won the third-set tiebreak, 10-3.
 
Virginia Tech swept the doubles matches to take the opening point. NSU's Laura Ruiz and Aleksandra Evdokimova lost, 6-2, to Annie Clark and Katie Andreini at the No. 1 position, Erika Chang and Rita Pinto beat Fuller and Breana Cook at No. 2, 6-1, and Andrea Barcenas and Zada McMorris fell, 6-2, against Sabina Richtrova and Chhinda Som at the third slot.
 
Clark defeated McMorris at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0, to give Virginia Tech a 2-0 lead early. Charlotte Carledge also won by the same score against Cook for No. 3 singles, before Semra Aksu took down No. 4 Ruiz 6-0, 6-1.
 
Tamara Barad Itzhaki took down Evdokimova, playing her second dual match of her young career, by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Finally, Radulova outlasted Fuller in the longest match of the evening to wrap things up.
 
The Spartans have a little over a week to prepare for their next opponent, Loyola University Maryland. The match in Baltimore, Md., will take place on Feb. 27 at 1 p.m.
