VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Norfolk State junior
Fridah Koech won the bronze medal in the women's 5,000 meters to highlight first-day action at the 2022 MEAC Indoor Championships on Monday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Koech crossed the line in 18 minutes, 42.66 seconds to account for six points for the Spartans, who sit in fourth place with 11 total points after day one.
The other event final contested on Monday was the long jump. Both
Indya Richards and
Dahja Price scored points for the Spartans in the event, with Richards placing fifth with a top jump of 18 feet, 1 inch, and Price taking eighth with a top effort of 17-8.75.
The women's 200-meter heats were also run on Monday. Spartan senior
Malika Pride won her heat and had the top overall qualifying time of 23.89 seconds.
Tuesday's middle day of competition gets underway for the women at 9:20 a.m. with the beginning of the pentathlon.
