VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Malika Pride earned a pair of top-three finishes in the sprints and
Leslie Young was runner-up in the shot put to propel the Norfolk State women's track and field team to a runner-up finish at the 2022 MEAC Indoor Championships on Wednesday at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
NSU finished with 149 points. Howard won the title with 184.
Pride was second in the 400 in an indoor PR of 53.49 seconds and also finished third in the 200 (23.91). She finished her day by helping the 4x400 relay finish in fourth place.
Young led three Spartans who scored in the shot put. Young posted a PR of 43 feet, 4.5 inches.
Arieana Parker was fifth (PR, 41-3) and
Tiara Simms seventh (41-2.5).
Destiny Hooks and
D'Nysha Brightful placed third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault to kick the day off for the Spartans. Both cleared 10 feet, 2 inches.
Elsewhere on the track, the Spartans also stacked up points in the 60-meter hurdles, as
Indya Richards finished as runner-up ,
Zion Smith placed fifth and
Alyssa Thompson-Rowe eighth.
Kara Grant had the busiest day of any Spartan, as she placed third in both the 800 and mile and fourth in the 3,000.
Fridah Koech also scored in two events Wednesday, taking third in the 3,000 and seventh in the mile.
