Norfolk Va. – Norfolk State Women's Tennis got its first win of the season in emphatic fashion on Friday, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Hampton in the Spartans' home opener at NSU Tennis Complex.

NSU got off to a fast start, clinching the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Spartans head coach
Peter Banas went with the lineup combination that he debuted against Old Dominion the day prior, and it paid off.

Zada McMorris and
Andrea Barcenas lost 6-1, 6-3 at the top spot, but
Breana Cook and
Aleksandra Evdokimova won 6-3 at No. 2 before
Andrea Barcenas and
Amber Fuller earned the point with a 6-1 victory on court three.

The Spartans continued their dominance in singles play. Fuller swiftly navigated past Hampton's No. 2 Viktoria Ljungman 6-2, 6-1, and Evdokimova beat Milena Amedieva 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

Ruiz clinched the win by taking down Hampton's Franzene Tsui 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 slot. The match ended when NSU secured the victory, with the Spartans winning on two of the three remaining courts.

NSU (1-4) returns to NSU Tennis Complex on Sunday for a match against Longwood. The meeting was previously scheduled for Wednesday, Mar. 9, but was postponed by inclement weather.
