DURHAM, N.C. – Anthony Franklin and
Kai Cole led a strong weekend for Norfolk State's sprinters with a top-five individual finish and formed half of the runner-up 4x100 relay team at the Duke Invitational.
Franklin was runner-up in the 100 meters in a personal-best time of 10.40 seconds. Cole (fifth place, 10.45) and
Bryan-Madison Ahouman (15
th, 10.67) also ran well in the event.
Those three and teammate
Savien Hayes then posted NSU's best 4x100 relay of the season, 39.95, to place second. That is the top time in the MEAC so far this season.
Cole and Franklin also fared well in the 200. Cole clocked a time of 20.95 seconds to finish third and Franklin placed sixth in 21.1. Those are the top two MEAC times this year.
Other top-10 finishes on the track were turned in by
Dazon Harrison in the 400 (ninth, 48.38) and
Camren Wynder-Hill in the 110 meter hurdles (10
th, 14.77).
The Spartan jumpers enjoyed a stellar weekend as well.
Isaac Haywood was runner-up in the triple jump with a top mark of 50 feet, 3.5 inches. Teammate Rodric Cox-Cooper logged a seventh-place finish thanks to a PR of 47-4.25.
In the long jump, both
Joshua Peterson and Wynder-Hill recorded season bests. Peterson's top effort was 23-5.25, good for eighth place, and Wynder-Hill had a best jump of 23-4.5 to place ninth.
The Spartans will compete in their own Norfolk State Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Dick Price Stadium.
