CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Norfolk State men's track and field team continued to round into form with a solid all-around showing over the weekend at the Virginia Challenge.
From the sprinters, to the relays to middle distance to the field athletes, a host of Spartans turned in personal or season-best performances. Sprinter
Anthony Franklin was again among the standouts. He posted a PR of 20.77 seconds in placing third in the 200 meters. His time ranks him first in the MEAC and among the top 35 in the region.
Franklin also matched his 100m PR from last week's Norfolk State Invitational, registering a 10.29 in finishing fifth.
Bryan-Madison Ahouman also ran a strong 100m with a PR of 10.57 seconds.
Like Franklin,
Kai Cole was also strong in the 200. He also clocked a PR, finishing in 20.85 seconds, good for sixth at U.Va. and the No. 2 time in the MEAC this year.
Cole, Franklin, Ahouman and
Savien Hayes posted their second-best 4x100 relay time of the year, a 40.02 which was good for fourth place. In fact, the Spartans took top five in both relays at U.Va. The 4x400 team of Hayes,
Trequan Barnes,
Dazon Harrison and
Jordan Williams clocked a 3:11.39 to finish fifth. That is the fastest time in the MEAC this year.
Also setting PRs on the track over the weekend were
Regan Kimtai in the 1,500 (3:54.46, No. 1 in MEAC) and both
Camren Wynder-Hill (14.73) and
Joshua Sutton (14.74) in the 110 hurdles.
The Spartan jumpers also fared well over the weekend. All three NSU long jumpers who competed posted personal bests.
Joshua Peterson led the way with a mark of 24 feet, 5.5 inches. Wynder-Hill was close behind with a 24-3.5 and
Rodric Cox-Cooper II had a best jump of 23-7.25.
In other field events,
Isaac Haywood placed eighth with a best mark of 49-6.5, while Sutton finished third in the high jump with a top height of 6-5.5.
The Spartans will compete at the Penn Relays and Virginia Challenge next week.
