Six Named to VaSID Academic All-State Team

NORFOLK, Va. – Six Norfolk State student-athletes were honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors on Thursday when they were named to the VaSID Academic All-State Team for the 2021-22 academic year.
 
Norfolk State football had a trio of honorees in D.J. Djonkam, Marquis Hall, and Anthony Blume with the Spartan volleyball team having two in Siera Jones and Rachel Williams. The women's tennis team closed out the honorees with Zada McMorris earning the final spot.
 
Djonkam maintains a perfect 4.0 in his academic career with Jones right behind with a 3.99 GPA. Each Spartan student-athlete honoree has at least a 3.77 cumulative GPA.
 
Below are the NSU honorees with their name, 2021-22 classification, hometown, GPA, major and sport listed:

• Siera Jones, Jr., Bridgeville, Del., 3.99, Mass Communications, Volleyball
• Marquis Hall, R-Jr., Woodbridge, Va., 3.90, Urban Affairs, Football
• Rachel Williams, Grad., Mesquite, Texas, 3.87, Media Management, Volleyball
• Anthony Blume, R-So., Edgewood, Md., 3.77, Sociology, Football
• Zada McMorris, So., Suffolk, Va., 3.77, Political Science, Women's Tennis

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 GPA and be a sophomore or higher in standing. Each school in the state of Virginia can nominate up to six student-athletes.
