NORFOLK, Va. – Gill Gymnasium played host to an intense rivalry match last Wednesday, and another will come to the venue less than seven days later when Norfolk State faces cross-town foe Old Dominion on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

NSU (0-7) seeks its first win of the season in just the second-ever matchup between the Spartan and Monarch volleyball programs. The match will be live streamed on HBCU Gameday+.

Last Time Out
Norfolk State dropped matches against The Citadel, Tennessee, and New Hampshire over the weekend at the Rocky Top Invitational. The Spartans' comeback against the Bulldogs came up just short in a 3-2 loss, while the team was not able to win a set against the Volunteers or Wildcats.

Nicole Rodriguez led the team in digs in all three matches, posting 24 against The Citadel, nine against Tennessee, and 13 against New Hampshire. The graduate senior libero now sits third in the conference with 4.20 digs per set.

Sydney McCree has already begun to add accolades to her resume, earning MEAC Rookie of the Week honors on Monday afternoon. The setter posted double-doubles in three of the Spartans' four matches last week, including a standout performance against Hampton with 39 assists, 10 digs, and four service aces.

The Durham, N.C. native currently ranks third in the conference with 6.58 assists per set.

Scouting the Monarchs

Old Dominion (3-6) is coming off three matches in Norfolk for the Quest For The Crown event. The Monarchs opened the tournament with a 3-2 win over Navy, before losing to Notre Dame and East Carolina over the weekend.

A strong front line gives ODU's opponents difficulty on a nightly basis. Bailey Burgess and Hailey Duncan are among the top blockers in the conference with 1.07 and 0.94 rejections per set, respectively.
