NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State freshman setter
Sydney McCree earned MEAC Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon for her standout performances in the Spartans' wins over UMES and Delaware State last week. The selection is McCree's second weekly conference honors of the season.
McCree led Norfolk State to its first 2-0 start in MEAC play since 2013 on Sunday, racking up 33 assists in just three sets as the Spartans swept DSU. She posted 30 assists in the team's comeback victory against the Hawks earlier, bringing her a total of 66 assists on 8.25 assists per set for the week.
While McCree put on a passing clinic against the Hornets, her versatility was on full display against UMES, posting career highs in kills (7), points (13.5), service aces (5), and total blocks (3). She added eight digs, four service aces, and one block in the win over DSU as well.
McCree now sits third in the MEAC with 7.02 assists per set, and fourth with 0.42 aces per set.
