Massoni Lena Clinches 4-3 Victory for Spartans over Coppin State

Box Score CARY, N.C. – Norfolk State picked up its second win of the season on Friday, defeating Coppin State 4-3 at Cary Tennis Park.
 
The Spartans got off to a great start, winning the opening doubles point with wins on Courts 1 and 2. Federico Rebecchini and Adam Kaczmarek defeated Luka Markovic and Vansh Kapoor 6-2, before Sadiq Hinton and Ibrahim Abbas took down Isaac Sanders and Ulugbe Abdurakhmonov 6-4.
 
The doubles point proved pivotal, with the teams splitting singles play.
 
Rebecchini won over Markovic at the top singles position 7-5, 6-1, after Kaczmarek defeated Sanders 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 3 slot.
 
Coppin State earned victories at the No. 4, 5, and 6 positions, tightening the match. Anas Haddou bested Boris Lunin in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 in the final match of the day, after Rishi Jalota and Abdurakhmonov defeated Brown and Abbas, respectively, in straight sets.
 
The Spartans earned the points they needed to secure the result, though. Hugo Massoni Lena earned the clinching point to put the Spartans ahead 4-2 and clinch a victory.
 
Norfolk State returns to the court on Saturday for the final day of the MEAC Tennis Roundup, facing Morgan State at 9 a.m.
