NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State University head volleyball coach Kathy Bullock announced the 2023 women's volleyball schedule, which features four early season tournaments and the annual Battle of the Bay match with Hampton.

The 2023 slate offers the Spartans fans nine home matches, two against 757 opponents, William & Mary and Hampton, with the other seven games against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foes. 

The Spartans are looking to build off of a 2022 season where NSU went 7-7 in conference play, the best MEAC conference record since 2013. 

NSU will have the opportunity to open the new season at Gill Gymnasium against local rival William & Mary on Aug. 19 for an exhibition match. 

Norfolk State spends the opening two weekends of the season on the road as the Spartans compete at tournaments hosted by the Monarchs of Old Dominion University and the Fighting Camels of Campbell University. Hampton University comes to Gill Gymnasium in the annual Battle of the Bay on Sept. 5.

The same weekend, Sept. 8-9, NSU travels to Wilmington, N.C. to compete in the UNC Wilmington Tournament and will conclude the early season tournament schedule in Charlottesville, VA, at UVA the weekend of Sept. 15-16.

Norfolk State returns home to Gill Gymnasium on Sept. 23 and 25 to open their MEAC schedule against North Carolina Central and South Carolina State respectively.

The Spartans hit the road to end September to face the Hawks of Maryland Eastern Shore on the 29th in Princess Anne, Md.
 
October begins with three consecutive home matches for Norfolk State where they will host the heart of their MEAC home slate beginning on Oct. 1 against Delaware State. Coppin State and Morgan State come to Norfolk on Oct. 6 and 8 respectively. 

The Spartans kick off a three game road trip beginning on Friday, Oct. 13, with a trip to the nations capitol to face Howard University in Washington, D.C. After a week off, NSU heads down south to the Carolinas for a road trip to N.C. Central and S.C. State. The Spartans will face the Eagles of NCCU on Oct. 20 and the Bulldogs of SCSU on Oct. 22.
 
Norfolk State will hold its 2023 Homecoming game on Oct. 27 as Maryland Eastern Shore visits Gill Gymnasium. The Spartans went 2-1 against the Hawks in 2022 winning the two regular season match ups but falling in the MEAC tournament.

October ends with a road trip up to Dover, DE to face Delaware State on the 29th before Norfolk State kicks off November on the road at Coppin State and Morgan State in Baltimore, Md., on November 3 and 5. 

Norfolk State wraps up the regular season at home as Howard comes to town on Nov. 10. The Spartans were swept 3-0 by the Bison to end the regular 2022 season.
