NORFOLK, Va. | The Norfolk State University Spartan softball team returns to the NSU Softball Field for a MEAC Series against the Eagles of Coppin State University. The Spartans and Eagles will square off in a doubleheader on Sunday with a single game to follow on Monday.
The series dates have been pushed back a day starting on Sunday and finishing Monday as the forecast is calling for inclement weather on Saturday which would create unsuitable playing circumstances.
The Spartans (11-15, 2-4) head into the weekend series against the Eagles (4-16, 1-5) after dropping a three game series to the Bears of Morgan State University last weekend in Baltimore, MD.
Norfolk State leads the all-time series against Coppin State 61-14, dating back to the 1998 season. The Spartans have won the last 13 contests between the two teams dating back to the 2019 season. In the most recent encounter, NSU defeated CSU 3-1 in the MEAC Softball Tournament.
Coppin State has had several athletes claim MEAC of the week honors with Celeste Gonzales claiming MEAC Softball Player of the Week honors on March 27. During the week of March 6, Brissa Alvarado and Seryna Esparza claimed the MEAC Softball Player and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
