NORFOLK, Va. | The Norfolk State University Spartan softball team hits the road for an eight game road trip beginning with a stop in Cary, N.C. over the weekend of April 15-16, when they face the Eagles of North Carolina Central University in MEAC action. 
The Spartans (18-16) head into the weekend three-game series after splitting a midweek doubleheader against the Pirates of Hampton University (W, 5-2 / L, 7-4). NSU went into the DH on a six-game win streak after back-to-back sweeps of Coppin State University and South Carolina State University. Game times for the weekend have been updated slightly due to inclement weather to hit the Durham area Friday evening. Saturday's game times are now 4 PM and 6 PM. Sunday's game time remains at 12 PM. 
Norfolk State is led by 
Rylie Gilbreath at the plate with a .330 batting average scoring 14 runs on 31 hits, six doubles, a triple, one home run, and 22 RBI in 94 at-bats. 
Yrral Davis and 
Gabby Vaughan are close behind with .311 and .303 respectively. 
In the doubleheader against Hampton University, Vaughan claimed sole ownership of the program record for doubles in a career with her 40th double.
In the circle for the Spartans, seniors 
Alexis Robinson and 
Cam Andersen have been leading the way. Between the two, they have a collective 15-10 win/loss record with six complete games and three shutouts, with two saves in 163.0 innings pitched.
Norfolk State has faced N.C. Central 52 times in program history dating back to the 1990 season. The Spartans went 2-1 in the opening series losing the opener 1-2, and winning the remaining two games 12-1, 14-6. NSU holds the series lead with a 36-13 win/loss record against NCCU. When the teams last met at this same time last year, Norfolk State swept the series 5-2, 3-1, 9-1 (5). N.C. Central is 6-4 in its last 10 contests and coming off a midweek shutout loss at Elon.
