NORFOLK, Va. – Two Spartans were named to Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division Men's Indoor Track & Field All-State teams on Friday afternoon, recognitions of their seasons.
Â
Kai Cole and
Isaac Haywood received the accolades for Norfolk State, both landing on the VaSID All-State Second Team. Cole and Haywood were the Spartans' two all-state honorees for the indoor season last year as well.
Â
The announcement marked Cole's third all-state recognition of his NSU career, earning first-team honors for the 2022 indoor season and second-team honors for the 2022 outdoor campaign. This year, he successfully defended his MEAC titles in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, winning both with times of 674 and 21.09, respectively.
Â
Haywood stood atop the podium at the MEAC Indoor Championships as well, winning the triple jump with a distance of 50 feet, 0.5 inches. Haywood had set his personal record in the event just the week prior, also at the Virginia Beach Sports Center, recording 50 feet, 6.25 inches.
Â
Both Cole and Haywood's efforts helped lead the Spartans' to their second consecutive indoor team conference championship. The pair will look to complete the sweep when the MEAC Outdoor Championships return to Norfolk State's campus from May 9 to May 11.
