Box Score NORFOLK, Va. -- The Norfolk State University softball team completed the three game series sweep against the Eagles of Coppin State at NSU Softball Field in Norfolk, Va. on Monday afternoon. NSU won the game 3-0.
Three runs was all it took for Norfolk State to complete the shutout over Coppin State in game three of the three game series. Two of the three runs were home runs, one each from
Yrral Davis and
Gabby Vaughan, while the third run was scored by
Alison Guckin on a
Rylie Gilbreath single to center field.
The first two innings were scoreless for both squads as only one runner for each team reached base and was left stranded.
In the third inning,
Alison Guckin reached base on a fielders choice and stole second before rounding third for home on a
Rylie Gilbreath single to center field putting NSU on the board 1-0.
The next run was not scored until the fifth inning when senior
Yrral Davis hit a home run down the left field line, just her second homerun of the season, to give the Spartans a 2-0 cushion.
NSU's final run came in the bottom of the sixth as
Gabby Vaughan hit her second home run of the weekend over the right center field wall putting the score at 3-0 and ultimately resulting in a series sweep for Norfolk State.
