Spartans knocked out of 2023 MEAC Softball Tournament by Bison

Box Score NORFOLK, Va. - The No. 2 seeded Spartans of Norfolk State University fell in the elimination game against the No. 4 seeded Bison of Howard University ending their run in the 2023 MEAC Championship Tournament.

After both teams went scoreless in the opening frame, the Bison posted a pair of runs in the top of the second inning to get on the scoreboard first leading 2-0. 

Norfolk State managed to get a run across home plate in the bottom half of the inning as Yrrall Davis reached first on a bases loaded fielders choice that send Lauren Sheehan home for the score. The NSU run put the score at 2-1 in favor of HU. 

Howard slowly increased its lead throughout the remaining five innings scoring single runs in the third, fifth, and seventh frames to lead 5-1 heading into the final half inning. 

The Spartans had chances throughout the last five innings leaving at least one runner stranded in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. Unfortunately, NSU went three up, three down in the bottom of the seventh falling 5-1 to HU and were eliminated from the 2023 MEAC Championship Tournament.
