NORFOLK, Va. - The 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament begins this week running May 10-13 on the campus of Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va. The host Spartans enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed behind top seeded Morgan State at No. 1.
The top-six teams in the MEAC softball standings advanced to the double-elimination conference tournament this week at the NSU Softball Field. The winner of the tournament earns the MEAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship Tournament.
The top two seeds receive a first round bye while the three through six seeds play in the first two games of the tournament on Wednesday. The No. 2 Spartans will face the winner of the No. 3/No. 6 game featuring the Eagles of N.C. Central as the No. 3 seed and Maryland Eastern Shore at No. 6.
Norfolk State enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed after going 24-21 overall and 14-6 in the MEAC this season. The Spartans swept Coppin State, South Carolina State, Delaware State, and Maryland Eastern Shore for 11 of the 14 MEAC wins.
The Spartans are looking for their MEAC Conference title since joining the league in 1997. Leading the charge is first year head coach
