Webb delivers ceremonial coin flip at US Open

| By:

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Norfolk State University Director of Athletics Melody Webb conducted a ceremonial coin flip at the US Open as a part of the HBCU Live Day.

Now in its third year, HBCU Live at the US Open aims to celebrate the history, culture, pride and impact that HBCU's have on the communities around them.

The 2023 US Open celebrates the 50th anniversary of equal pay for prize money at this year's events. As such, women HBCU Athletic Directors were invited to conduct the ceremonial coin tosses during HBCU Live on August 30.

Webb was the first of the day to give the coin flip at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in advance of the Coco Gauff vs Mirra
Andreeva match up. Other Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) athletic directors that participated at the event included Keshia Campbell, South Carolina State University, Dena Freeman-Patton, Morgan State University, Alecia Shields-Gadson, Delaware State University, Tara A. Owens, University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Additional events happening in conjunction with the US Open and HBCU Live include the HBCU Yard Experience and an invitation-only networking event and panel discussion.
