NEWCASTLE, Del. – The Norfolk State women's bowling team began the spring portion of its campaign over the weekend at the 2024 Northeast Classic, hosted by Sacred Heart University.

The Spartans won two of their 13 matches at the event, posting a pinfall average of 167.6 across 69 games. Freshman
Kiersten Michel led the Spartans in the individual standings with a 192.2 average, including a 220 outing in the team's opening game.

Competing in total pinfall baker games on the first day of competition, Norfolk State defeated Mount Aloysius College (831-692). The Spartans dropped matches against Nebraska (795-1,005), Stephen F. Austin (793-889), UAB (814-988), and Sam Houston State (767-1,013).

Moving to five-person total pinfall matchups the following day, NSU started the morning with an 899-823 victory over Adelphi University. Despite putting together several strong performances, the Spartans couldn't come out victorious in the remaining four matches of the day.

On the first day of the match play competition, Norfolk State faced Chestnut Hill in a thrilling battle. After the latter earned a slim 2-1 lead through three games, both teams tied at 168 in the fourth game. The Spartans made a late push, but Chestnut Hill won the tiebreaker by a mere 13 points to escape with a narrow series victory.
