NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State volleyball team returns to the Hampton Roads Area for part two of its rivalry match-up against Hampton on Wednesday in Hampton, Va. before hosting Howard on Sunday in the "Breast Cancer Awareness" match at Gill Gymnasium.

The Spartans (8-10, 3-3 MEAC) and Pirates (0-19, 0-3 CAA) faceoff for the second time this season after Norfolk State defeated Hampton on Sept. 17 in straight sets.

Norfolk State looks to continue momentum with a win over the Pirates after a thrilling five-set win over Morgan State on. Oct. 13. The Spartans, led by Sydney McCree's season-high 43 assists, moved to 3-3 in conference play.

The Bison (12-5, 6-0 MEAC) come to Norfolk on a six-match winning streak whilst standing in first place in the MEAC as the only team undefeated in conference play. 

LAST TIME OUT
  • Norfolk State defeated Morgan State in five sets on Sunday to move to .500 (3-3) in MEAC play this season
  • Sydney McCree posted a season-high 43 assists in the win against the Bears for her sixth 40+ assist match of her career
  • Three Spartans totaled 14+ kills against the Bears: Gabrielle Gilbert (20), Alexa Harris (20), and Jordan Lyons (14)
  • Lily Rose-Pichon collected 13 digs for her eighth consecutive match with 10+ digs
  • The Spartans tied their season-high in service aces (12) led by three each from McCree, Gilbert, and Mataira, two from Rose-Pichon, and one from Lyons

  • Hampton lost to UNCW twice, 3-0 and 3-1, on Oct. 12 and 13 in Wilmington, N.C.
  • Morgan Warren totaled 26 assists and Ida Wiszomirska collected 27 across both matches
  • Madison Clark recorded 12 kills and 5 digs in match one, whilst solidifying 10 kills and four digs in the second
  • Kylah Hunter notched 24 total digs in the series

  • The Bison sit securely in first place of the MEAC with an undefeated (6-0) record in conference play
  • Howard comes off a series against Morgan State and Coppin State defeating both 3-0
  • Preseason MEAC Player of the Year Rya McKinnon combined for 35 kills and 19 digs across both matches, totaling 20 kills against Morgan State
  • Dami Awojobi collected two double-doubles on a 10-kill, 14-dig performance against Coppin State and a 12-kill, 11-dig outing against Morgan State
  • Leah Reeves, the team's leader in assists, notched 85 assists across both matches
LOOKING AHEAD TO WHAT'S NEXT
Norfolk State remains home for a pair of MEAC matchups against North Carolina Central on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. and South Carolina State for "Homecoming" on Oct. 27th at 1 p.m..
