NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk State volleyball team comes into the weekend with crucial matchups in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play to begin the month of November.

The Spartans (10-12, 4-5 MEAC) take on Maryland Eastern Shore (9-11, 4-5 MEAC) in Princess Anne, Md. on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Hytche Center. Two days later, Norfolk State battles Delaware State at 1 p.m. on Sunday Nov. 3 at home.

The Spartans enter the weekend in fourth place in the conference tied with UMES. In the last meeting between Norfolk State and UMES on Oct. 4, the Spartans defeated the Hawks in straight sets.

Delaware State, currently sitting in second place, plays Norfolk State on Sunday after playing first place Howard on Friday in Dover, Del. 

The Spartans lost to DSU in the last meeting between the teams on Oct. 3, 3-0 in Dover.

Norfolk State rides a 3-0 victory over South Carolina State on Sunday into this week's conference matchups. Gabrielle Gilbert posted a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs against the Bulldogs, as Sydney McCree led both teams with 27 assists.

  • Valeria Otero posted 17 digs; Alondra Maldonado secured 12 kills
  • Morgan Allen (3) and Otero (2) notched multiple service aces against the Bears
  • Naz Tuncay (25) and Paige Ahakuelo (20) combined for 45 assists
LOOKING AHEAD TO WHAT'S NEXT
Norfolk State hosts Coppin State for a "Faculty Appreciation" match on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. Norfolk State hosts Morgan State in the final home match at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10 for Senior Day.
