NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State tennis teams nearly swept the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) awards this week, receiving three of the four recognitions.
 
Norfolk State senior Gabriela Davidescu was named MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, while Irina Ioana Iurea earned Rookie of the Week honors. Jakub Solarski took the MEAC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week recognition.
 
Davidescu continued her strong start to the season with a 2-0 day during NSU's comfy 7-0 victory against Virginia State. After earning a 6-0 doubles victory alongside Iurea, Davidescu defeated Ginger Johnson at the No. 1 slot, while Iurea cruised past Ashleigh Charles 6-0, 6-0.
 
Solarski teamed up with Antoni Pankowski for a 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles slot against Virginia Wesleyan, before defeating Ole Behrmann 6-0, 7-6 at the No. 3 singles position.
 
The Norfolk State men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday against Navy, before both teams square off against Longwood on Sunday afternoon.
