CARY, N.C. – The Norfolk State tennis teams will compete in the MEAC Tennis Tournament this week at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

The Spartan men (11-10, 4-1 MEAC) enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed, earning a first-round bye. Norfolk State will play in the semifinals on Friday, Apr. 26, at 12 p.m. against the winner of Thursday's matchup between No. 3 seed North Carolina Central and No. 6 seed Coppin State.

The NSU women (2-16, 1-5) earned the No. 6 seed in the event, setting up a first-round meeting with No. 3 seed Howard. The match will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m.

The championship matches will commence on Saturday, with the women at 9 a.m. and the men at 12 p.m. Both bouts will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Norfolk State men's team put together a terrific nonconference slate that included wins over Wagner, Loyola (Md.), and Hampton. The Spartans went 3-0 at the MEAC Tennis Roundup, before picking up their only conference loss in a 5-2 result at South Carolina State.

The women's team earned victories over Virginia State and Coppin State, led by
Gabriela Davidescu at the top of the lineup. Davidescu registered an 11-7 record at the No. 1 singles position, going 5-2 in MEAC play.

Five Norfolk State student-athletes were named to the MEAC All-Academic Team, announced by the conference on Tuesday evening, The women's team earned four members, while
Boris Lunin represented the men's squad.

MEAC sophomore, junior, and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average (GPA), as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
