NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's tennis team continued its fall slate over the weekend with a tournament in the UTR Sports College Circuit, competing at the Norfolk Yacht & Country Club Invitational.

2024 MEAC Rookie of the Year
Jakub Solarski earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Vedant Bhende, before falling 6-4, 6-1 to Old Dominion's Jean Karim Olivier de Sardan.

Vladisav Gorbatenko took down William & Mary's Raz Katz 7-6 (3), 6-2. A highly touted recruit, Katz ranked No. 15 in the Israeli men's national ranking. Gorbatenko dropped his next singles match to Younes Lalami by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

Deniz Okyay also picked up a singles victory, cruising past Christopher Newport's Vincent Truong 6-1, 6-2 on Friday afternoon. The sophomore fell 6-1, 6-1 to ODU's Cosme Rolland de Ravel later in the day.

After losing in the main draw,
Frederick McRae bounced back to defeat William & Mary's Nikita Bortnicheck 6-1, 0-6, 12-10 in the consolation ladder.

McRae and Gorbatenko teamed up for doubles action, easily moving past Christopher Newport's Edvard Porsmyr Hansen and Ashton Legum 8-2, before falling in the second round.

Solarski and Okyay bested William & Mary's Nikita Bortnichek and Bryan Volk 8-4 before a second-round loss.
