Former Coach Darryl Cummings to be Inducted in Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame

NORFOLK, Va - Former Norfolk State tennis coach Darryl Cummings is among the inductees for the 2024 Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame class, announced by the organization Wednesday afternoon. 
 
The rest of the class includes an Olympian, three coaches, and two former players: Brandon Elliot (Virginia Wesleyan), LaShawn Merritt, Sugar Rodgers (Georgetown University), David Six (Hampton University), and Mimi Smith (Old Dominion University). 
 
Cummings amassed 33 wins across both the men's and women's programs from 2017-2019.  
 
He coached the only MEAC Women's Player of the Year in program history in Naz Karagoz (2019), secured four first team All-MEAC selections and one second team All-MEAC honoree.  
 
The induction banquet will take place in the Big Blue Room at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, located at 4320 Hampton Blvd. on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Free parking will be available in the adjacent garage on 43rd Street. Doors will open at 6 p.m., with dinner and the induction program at 7 p.m.  
 
Tickets will cost $65, and a table of eight can be reserved for $450. Tickets and tables can be reserved by calling the arena box office at 757-683-4444.
