NEW YORK, N.Y. --- The Norfolk State women's track and field team earned a fifth-place finish as a team at the HBCU Showcase Saturday.
Hampton won the meet with 120 points. Howard (95), Florida A&M (80), Prairie View A&M (75), and Norfolk State (66) rounded out the top five.
Brooklyn Robinson led the way for the Spartans with a first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.41). She also clocked a 25.09 in the 200 meters to finish in 10th place.
Senior
Jahmei Wyatt won her first event of the year, finishing first in the mile with a time of 5:10.78.
Abigael Chebet followed Wyatt to place fourth in the same event (5:15.98) while
Sonia Koech took seventh place (5:23.05).
The Spartans placed three runners in the top 10 in the 400 meters led by
Leanna Lewis taking sixth place (57.35),
Kadynce Taylor in ninth place (57.61), and
Kalyncia Taylor (57.62).
NSU also had a pair of fourth place finishes with
Emani Thompson clocking a time of 2:18.24 in the 800 meters while Chebet finished the 3,000-meter race in 10:16.24.
The team of
Autumn Burrell,
Kadynce Taylor,
Kalyncia Taylor, and Lewis took second place in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:49.84.
In field events,
D'Nysha Brightful took second place in the pole vault (10-4 – personal best), while
Leslie Young earned second place in the weight throw (56-8).
Aniah Kennerson also earned a 10th-place finish in the high jump (5-1).
Norfolk State will return to action on Friday, Jan. 24 at the Penn State National in University Park, Pa.
