UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- The Norfolk State women's track & field team faced strong competition at the Penn State National Open this weekend, seeing success against some of the nation's top programs.
Brooklyn Robinson recorded the top finish in the first day of the event, clocking a time of 8.36 in the 60-meter hurdles to take second place.
In the 800 meters,
Jahmei Wyatt placed 19th (2:12.44), followed by a pair of personal best times from
Leanna Lewis (2:12:54) and
Emani Thompson (2:17.77) in the same event.
Kadynce Taylor also clocked a personal best time in the 400 meters to place 20th (57.03).
Kalyncia Taylor followed closely behind in the same event with a time of 58.09, while
Autumn Burrell rounded out the Spartans' finishers in the 400 meters (59.11).
Sophomore
Abigael Chebet rounded out the first day of competition with a 13th-place finish in the 5,000 meters (18:14.60). Senior
Allysia Farrar kicked off the second day of competition with a top 10 finish in the 200 meters, placing ninth with a time of 24.91.
The 4x400 relay team made up of Lewis, Wyatt,
Kadynce Taylor, and
Kalyncia Taylor clocked a sixth place finish with a time of (3:47.95).
Senior
Mercyline Kimaiyo produced a strong performance to cap off the event, clocking a time of 10:16.73 to take 26th place 3,000 meters.
