VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. --- The Norfolk State women's track team began its Virginia Beach portion of the indoor schedule, producing strong performances against high level competition at the East Coast Invitational hosted by the University of Virginia.

Senior
Allysia Farrar got the Spartans going, qualifying for the 60-meter dash finials with a personal best time of 7.63. She went on to finish eighth in the finals with a time of 7.72.

NSU captured 15-18th place in the mile, with
Abigael Chebet leading the way with a time of 5:08.00. She was followed by
Sonia Koech (5:13.34),
Leanna Lewis (5:15.91), and
Emani Thompson (5:16.32).

The Spartans also saw a strong showing in the 400 meters with
Kalyncia Taylor finishing in eighth place (57.17) and
Kadynce Taylor taking ninth place (57.19).
Autumn Burrell clocked a 12th place finish (58.51) while
Asiah Wike earned a 14th place finish (59.28) in the same event.

Norfolk State saw success on day two of the event, picking up three top-20 finishes in the 200 meters led by Farrar in 11th place (24.61).
Kadynce Taylor followed in 18th place (25.25) while
Brooklyn Robinson placed 20th (25.36).

Senior
Leslie Young led the way in field events, placing sixth in the weight throw (55-8.75) and 11th in the shot put (41-10.75).

D'Nysha Brightful also had a strong performance in the pole vault placing ninth (10-2.75) while
Brooklyn Robinson took 11th place in the long jump (17-6).
Aniah Kennerson rounded out the field events with an eighth-place finish in the high jump (5-0.5).

Norfolk State returns to action next weekend in the Indoor Pre-Nationals, taking place in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The two-day event starts on Friday, February 14.
