Spartans Return to Mid-Major Rankings

| By:
BOSTON, Mass. – The Norfolk State men's basketball team has returned to College Insider's Mid-Major Rankings just in time for March Madness.

The Spartans (24-10, 11-3 MEAC) received the No. 25 ranking in the organization's latest poll, their first appearance since Dec. 3, 2024. Norfolk State is the only Historically Black College or University (HBCU) featured in the rankings.

Norfolk State won its fourth MEAC Tournament title on Saturday in a thrilling 66-65 battle at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Spartans boast an impressive nonconference resume as well, highlighted by a road victory at High Point – the only visiting team to win in the Panthers' home arena this season. High Point earned the No. 8 ranking in this week's mid-major poll.

The No. 16 seed Spartans will face No. 1 seed Florida in the NCAA Tournament First Round at 6:50 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 21 at 6:50 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.

Now in its 26th season, the Mid-Major Top 25 is voted on by 31 Division I coaches. The poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Coastal Athletic, Conference USA, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast, and the Western Athletic.
