TAMPA, Fla. --- The Norfolk State women's track and field team saw success in its outdoor season-opening meet on Friday and Saturday at the South Florida Alumni Invite.
Leanna Lewis led the Spartans at the meet, placing fourth in the 800 meters (2:08.19).
Jahmei Wyatt also clocked a top 10 finish in the same event, taking ninth with a time of 2:09.65.
Brooklyn Robinson put together a strong performance at the meet, earning 24
th in the long jump (17-3.25) and 25th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.55).
The Spartans competed in a pair of relays with the 4x400 relay team consisting of
Kadynce Taylor,
Kalyncia Taylor,
Autumn Burrell, Wyatt, and Lewis taking ninth (3:34.04) while the 4x100 relay team consisting of
Kadynce Taylor,
Kalyncia Taylor,
Brandy Hall,
Allysia Farrar, and Robinson took 13th (46.21).
Several NSU runners competed in the 200 meters with
Kalyncia Taylor leading the way, clocking a time of 24.61 to take 46th place. Hall followed in 48th (24.64), while
Kadynce Taylor took 49th.
Farrar earned a 52nd place finish in the same event (24.67), while
Asiah Wike clocked a time of 24.78 to take 62nd. Burrell rounded out the NSU finishers in the 200 meters, earning 68th place (24.90).
Kalyncia Taylor also clocked a time of 55.04 to place 16th in the 400 meters, while
Daena Dyer took 34th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.46).
Emani Thompson placed 32nd in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:49.16 to round out the running events.
Leslie Young put together a pair of top 20 performances in field events, including 17th in the discus throw 139-5 and 18th in the hammer throw (167-2).
Aniah Kennerson led the Spartans in the high jump, taking 15th (5-3) while
Essence Shaw followed in 16th (5-1).
Norfolk State returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 27 through Saturday Mar. 29 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
