TAMPA, Fla. --- The Norfolk State men's track & field team made its outdoor season debut at the South Florida Alumni Invite, taking place on Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore
Premier Wynn led the Spartans at the event, placing second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.70. Wynn also helped the 4x400 relay team made up of
Tafari Bishop,
Kendrick Winfield, and
Vincent Bond Jr. place first, clocking a time of 3:05.67. The 4x400 meter relay time currently ranks first in the nation and the east regional, while Wynn's 400-meter hurdle time ranks fifth in Division I and second in the east regional. Bishop's 400 meter hurdle time also comes in 17th in Division I and seventh in the east regional.
Bishop followed Wynn in the 400-meter hurdles, taking sixth (51.75) while
Jahquan Christopher took 12th in the same event (53.11).
Norfolk State also put together a strong showing in the 200 meters with Bond leading the way in 15th (21.15).
Christopher Basking clocked a time of 21.29 (20th place) while
Julian Ward took 24th (21.38).
Donovan Terry rounded out the Spartans' finishers in the 200 meters with a 47th place finish (21.75).
Antoinne Smith earned a 26th place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 10.63, while Terry took 30th (10.66) and Ward took 31st (10.67).
Norfolk State put together a strong showing in the high jump with a pair of top 10 finishes, with
Chazden Wilson leading the way in eighth (6-6.75) while
Jaymes Saunders took ninth (6-4.75). Saunders also competed in the long jump, taking 12th (23-1.25).
The Spartans placed three inside the top 12 of the triple jump including Stephens in 10th (14-4.25),
Jayden Gordon in 11th (14-0.75), and
Camren Wynder-Hill in 12th (44-4.25).
NSU rounded out field events with
Sean Bell taking 17th in the javelin (145-1) and
Artell Williams taking 26th in the shot put (47-2.5).
Norfolk State returns to action on Thursday, Mar. 27 through Saturday Mar. 29 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
