CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. --- The Norfolk State women's track team continued to find success at the UVA Challenge from Apr. 18-19.
Leanna Lewis led the Spartans in the 800 meters, placing third (2:07.03), while
Jahmei Wyatt followed in 18th (2:12.89).
Brooklyn Robinson also clocked a top-10 finish in the 100 meters, taking seventh with a time of 11.73.
The Norfolk State distance team earned three top-10 finishes in the 10,000 meters, led by
Mercyline Kimaiyo in fifth (37:11.01),
Abigael Chebet in sixth (37:35.38), and
Sonia Koech in seventh (37:49.94).
Junior jumper
Essence Shaw led the way for NSU in field events, taking fifth in the high jump (5-4.5).
Kadynce Taylor placed 14th in a field of 74 runners in the 400 meters with a time of 55.09.
Kalyncia Taylor followed in 16th (55.14), while
Jahmei Wyatt took 49th (57.19), and
Autumn Burrell placed 51st (57.21).
The NSU 4x400 relay team consisting of
Kadynce Taylor,
Kalyncia Taylor, Lewis, and Burrell clocked a time of 3:42.63 to place sixth.
Asiah Wike put together a strong performance in the 200 meters, placing 18th with a time of 24.47.
Brandy Hall took 28th in the same event (24.66), while
Kailie Borque took 48th place (25.04).
Daena Dyer earned a top-20 finish in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 13.91.
Norfolk State returns to action at the Penn Relays from Apr. 24-26 in Philadelphia, Pa.
