NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State women's track & field team racked up several top finishes at the NSU Invitational on Saturday at William 'Dick' Price Stadium.
Jahmei Wyatt got the Spartans going, claiming first in the 1,500 meters (4:43.38), while
Sonia Koech took third (4:50.93) and
Abigael Chebet earned fourth (4:56.01). Koech won the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.07, while Chebet followed in second (2:27.48).
The Norfolk State 4x100 relay team consisting of
Kadynce Taylor,
Kalyncia Taylor,
Brandy Hall, and
Kailie Borque clocked a first-place finish with a time of 45.69.
Brooklyn Robinson won the 100-meter hurdles (13.33) as
Essence Shaw followed behind, taking second with a time of 14.48. Robinson claimed her second win of the day in the 100 meters with a time of 11.59, while
Brandy Hall took second (11.87) and Borque finished with a personal best to take fourth (12.05).
Freshman
Kalyncia Taylor led the Spartans in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 24.19 to place first.
Kadynce Taylor followed closely behind, taking second (24.40), while Borque finished fourth with a season best time of 25.00.
The Spartans took the top three times in the 400 meters, led by
Leanna Lewis (54.70),
Kadynce Taylor (55.43), and
Kalyncia Taylor (55.43).
Daena Dyer clocked a first-place time of 1:05.72 to lead NSU in the 400 meter hurdles.
Trinity Lucas followed in second (1:06.67), while
Lexa Hunter took fifth (1:09.32).
Leslie Young picked up a pair of wins in field events including the hammer throw (171-06) and javelin (129-2). Robinson claimed her third win of the day in the long jump (18.75).
Kayla Spencer claimed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 121 feet, while
Kaena Riley took fourth (110-0).
Jaya Jones earned third place honors in the javelin (103-5).
Norfolk State heads to Durham, North Carolina from Apr. 10-12 to participate in the Duke Invitational.
