Norfolk State Men Capture Fourth Consecutive MEAC Outdoor Championship

NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State men's track & field team captured its fourth consecutive MEAC Outdoor Championship on Saturday, completing a clean sweep of the 2024–25 MEAC titles in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track championships.
 
The championship win marked the Spartans' 13th MEAC Outdoor Championship title.
 
Head coach Kenneth Giles was named MEAC Outstanding Coach, while freshman Lewis Too earned Most Outstanding Runner honors.
 
The Spartans showcased their depth in the 5,000 meters, sweeping the podium. Gidion Sigei led the charge, taking gold in 15:29.91, followed by Victor Jumo (15:33.04) and Too (15:33.69).  
Premier Wynn captured the 400-meter title with a time of 46.53, narrowly edging out teammate Kendrick Winfield (46.69). Winfield later secured a gold medal in the 200 meters, clocking a season-best time of 20.70, while Christopher Basking placed fifth (21.34).  
Jayden Gordon took gold to open the day in the triple jump with a leap of 50 feet, 10.25 inches, and Khristopher Stephens reached the podium by third (50-8).
 
Sean Bell earned silver in the javelin with a throw of 172-08, while Landon Walker claimed bronze in the pole vault (14-3.5), just ahead of Andwele Shurland in fourth (13-11.75).
 
Tafari Bishop added a silver medal in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 50.90. Jahquan Christopher finished fifth (54.19), continuing NSU's string of top performances.  
Jumo led NSU in the 1,500 meters with a third-place finish (3:56.16), followed by Sigei (4th, 3:57.87), Too (5th, 4:03.75), and Brian Rotich (8th, 4:08.48).
 
Jaymes Saunders led NSU in the 110-meter hurdles, taking fifth with a time of 14.20, while Basking took sixth in the 100 meters (10.50).
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Tafari Bishop, Lavontay Bond, Winfield, and Wynn secured gold with a time of 3:09.34, sealing a thrilling finish to the meet.
