UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- The Norfolk State men's track and field team delivered a strong performance at the Penn State National on Friday and Saturday.
Kristopher Stephens captured the Spartans' lone victory, winning the triple jump with a leap of 15.08 meters. Daniel Mathenge recorded a top-three finish in the 5,000 meters, placing third in 14:46.71, while
Lewis Too followed closely behind in third place with a time of 14:49.78.
Christopher Basking paced Norfolk State in the 200 meters, finishing third in 21.67, while
Lavontay Bond placed fourth in 21.68.
Sprinter
Kendrick Winfield earned a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters (four sections) with a time of 21.65.
Donovan Terry finished seventh in the 400 meters in 48.63, while Winfield added a 13th-place finish in the same event at 48.91.
Norfolk State also secured two top-15 finishes in the 60 meters after Basking and
Antoinne Smith advanced to the semifinals. Basking placed 12th in 6.91, while Smith followed in 13th at 6.92.
The Spartans posted three top-10 finishes in the high jump, as
Xavier McGreal placed eighth,
Cancelor Watson ninth, and
Chazden Wilson 10th, with each clearing 1.91 meters. Sophomore pole vaulter
Landon Walker added a ninth-place finish after clearing 4.45 meters.
Norfolk State returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6, at the Penn Classic in Philadelphia.
