NORFOLK, Va. --- The Norfolk State track and field teams will compete in the 2026 MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Thursday, May 14 through Saturday, May 16.

THE EVENT
The MEAC Outdoor Championships will take place at William "Dick" Price Stadium on the campus of Norfolk State University.

Thursday's competition begins with the men's decathlon at 1 p.m., followed by the women's heptathlon at 1:15 p.m. The women's and men's 10,000 meters will close the opening day.
Â
Friday's action resumes at 9 a.m. with the continuation of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon. The men's 3,000-meter steeplechase will conclude day two.

Championship Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the women's pole vault and concludes with the men's 4x400-meter relay. ESPN+ will broadcast the final day beginning at 1 p.m.

All eight MEAC track and field programs will compete: Norfolk State, Coppin State, Delaware State, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore, Morgan State, North Carolina Central and South Carolina State.

OUTLOOK – NORFOLK STATE MEN'S
The Norfolk State men's team enters the meet seeking its fifth consecutive MEAC outdoor title and a fifth straight sweep of the MEAC cross country, indoor and outdoor championships.
The Spartans dominated the 2025 championships with 227 points. Howard and Coppin State tied for second place with 111.5 points each. NSU head coach Kenneth Giles earned Outstanding Coach of the Meet honors, while distance runner
Lewis Too claimed Outstanding Runner of the Meet accolades.

Senior
Kendrick Winfield has produced a standout season for the Spartans. He ranks third in the MEAC in the 400 meters with a time of 46.63 and fifth in the 200 meters at 21.13.
Antoinne Smith ranks fourth in the conference in the 100 meters with a time of 10.41.

Norfolk State's distance squad also enters the championships with strong marks.
Daniel Mathenge leads the MEAC in the 10,000 meters with a time of 30:11.11 and ranks third in the 5,000 meters at 14:33.97.
Ian Kimutai ranks second in the 10,000 meters (30:22.68) and fourth in the 5,000 meters (14:38.18).

The Spartans hold three of the conference's top five times in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Too ranks second at 9:13.11,
Jemmel Green sits fourth at 9:43.84 and
Basil Koech ranks fifth at 9:47.69.

Norfolk State's relay teams also rank among the MEAC leaders. The 4x400-meter relay team leads the conference with a time of 3:06.86, while the 4x100-meter relay team ranks second at 40.02.

In field events,
Kristopher Stephens leads the Spartans with the MEAC's top triple jump mark at 15.35 meters and the conference's third-best long jump mark at 7.38 meters.
Landon Walker owns the conference's top pole vault mark at 4.66 meters, while
Christian White ranks fifth at 4.21 meters.

Atrell Williams ranks third in the shot put with a toss of 16.10 meters, while
Sean Bell sits third in the javelin at 50.87 meters.

OUTLOOK – NORFOLK STATE WOMEN'S
The Norfolk State women's team seeks its first outdoor championship since 2011. The Spartans finished second at last year's meet, while Howard captured its fourth consecutive title.

Leslie Young earned Most Outstanding Field Athlete honors at the 2025 championships.

Brooklyn Robinson leads the Spartans on the track this season, ranking second in the MEAC in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.16.
Dannielle King ranks second in the 800 meters at 2:07.47, while
Jahmei Wyatt ranks fifth at 2:10.13. Wyatt also ranks fourth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:46.82.

Abigael Chebet leads Norfolk State in distance events, ranking second in the 10,000 meters at 39:39.76 and third in the 5,000 meters at 18:11.67.
Sonia Koech ranks fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:27.22. Koech also leads the MEAC in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:15.15, while
Amira Dailey ranks second at 11:45.38.

Both Norfolk State relay teams rank among the MEAC's top three. The 4x400-meter relay team ranks second at 3:44.57, while the 4x100-meter relay team sits third at 45.69.

Emma Svetiev leads the Spartans in the pole vault with the conference's top clearance at 3.39 meters.
Lexa Hunter ranks third at 3.24 meters.
Amanti Mayes ranks third in the shot put with a toss of 12.70 meters, while
Essence Shaw ranks fifth in the high jump at 1.67 meters.
