Spartans Set to Host Manhattan

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk State baseball team looks to get back on track this weekend as it hosts Manhattan at Marty L. Miller Field for a four-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 20.
 
Norfolk State (1-2) opened the season against Towson last weekend. The Spartans defeated Towson 2-0 before dropping the final two games, 12-3 and 28-4.
 
Manhattan (1-3) continues its road swing after competing in the Puerto Rico Challenge. The Jaspers fell to Indiana State (10-3), Seton Hall (7-2) and Houston (4-2) before earning a 10-7 win over Old Dominion on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
 
ABOUT NORFOLK STATE
Cameron Mazell leads the Spartans with a .300 batting average after collecting three hits against Towson, including a double and an RBI. Emmett Jefferson ranks second on the team with a .250 average after tallying two hits last weekend.
 
On the mound, reigning NEC Pitcher of the Week Ethan Blakeney owns a 0.00 ERA. He threw five scoreless innings with four strikeouts while allowing four hits in the shutout win over Towson. Yasseel Samboy added three innings of relief, striking out four and surrendering just one hit.

ABOUT MANHATTAN
Andreaus Lewis leads the Jaspers with a .300 batting average after recording three hits last week, including a home run and an RBI. Samuel Vincent follows with a .273 average, totaling three hits, three RBIs, a home run, a double and a run scored.
 
Hudson Pergamit paces Manhattan's pitching staff with a 0.00 ERA after tossing 3 1/3 innings with five strikeouts while allowing two hits and one run. Braden Romero owns a 7.71 ERA after pitching 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and five runs with five strikeouts.

SERIES HISTORY
Norfolk State is 0-3 all-time against Manhattan, with the Jaspers sweeping NSU during the 2024 season 2-5, 1-14, and 4-6.
